You can watch the emotional rescue and tribute to Dennis here:
In Los Angeles, a terribly sick and neglected Pit Bull was abandoned on a bridge and simply left to die. A young man named Gabriel Sepulveda happened to be skateboarding past when he spotted the motionless dog. Recognizing the desperate situation, Gabriel immediately reached out to the rescue organization, Hope For Paws.
When rescuers Eldad and Lisa Chiarelli arrived on the scene, they were met with a horrifying sight. The dog, whom they named Dennis, was completely immobilized, his body shutting down from a catastrophic, severe tick infestation. He was gently lifted, placed in a car, and rushed to the emergency hospital, where the veterinary team frantically worked to clean him and manually remove the thousands of ticks draining his life away.
Dennis was suffering from profound anemia, his blood levels critically low from the infestation. In an incredible act of inter-species sacrifice, Lisa’s own rescue dog, Lola, was brought to the clinic to serve as an emergency blood donor, offering a direct lifeline to the dying Pit Bull.
For the next five days, Dennis fought for his life in the ICU, receiving care from neurologists, cardiologists, and internal medicine specialists. He was finally surrounded by warmth, comfort, and people who desperately wanted him to survive his tragic past.
However, the prolonged neglect had simply done too much damage. Despite the heroic medical efforts and the blood transfusion from Lola, Dennis’s body was too weak to recover, and he ultimately passed away.
Not every rescue ends in a triumphant recovery. Dennis’s story is a heavy reminder of the profound loss that happens when an animal is abandoned to suffer alone. But because of the intervention of strangers, his final days were not spent on a cold, unforgiving bridge; they were spent surrounded by people who loved him, fought for him, and sacrificed to give him a fighting chance.
