New details have emerged about the family of Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old mother who was fatally shot during an ICE operation in Minneapolis, sparking protests and national debate.

Good’s partner, Rebecca Good, was captured on video moments after the shooting, visibly distraught and repeatedly saying the tragedy was “her fault.” Authorities have now confirmed that Rebecca, a 40-year-old handywoman, was outside the vehicle at the time of the incident, confronting federal agents while Renee remained behind the wheel.

The couple had previously lived in Kansas City, Missouri, before leaving the country following the 2024 U.S. election. They spent several months in Canada and later relocated to Minneapolis, where they were raising Renee’s 6-year-old son together.
What Happened
According to official accounts, ICE agents were conducting an immigration operation when Renee’s SUV stopped nearby. Video footage reportedly shows an officer ordering her to exit the vehicle. Moments later, the SUV reversed briefly and then moved forward while turning, prompting an agent positioned in front of the car to fire multiple shots. Renee was struck in the head and later died from her injuries.

Rebecca did not immediately realize her wife had been shot. Witness footage shows the vehicle continuing down the street before crashing into another car. Rebecca was later seen covered in blood, crying that she had urged Renee to come to the protest scene.
“They shot my wife. I have a child in school,” she was heard saying.
Conflicting Narratives
The Department of Homeland Security has alleged that Renee attempted to use her vehicle as a weapon and described her actions as a serious threat to agents. Officials also claimed the couple had been interfering with enforcement operations earlier that day.
However, Renee’s family strongly disputes those claims. Her mother described her as a compassionate and gentle person who spent her life helping others and insisted she was never involved in extremist activity.
Friends and neighbors echoed that sentiment, saying Renee was a devoted parent, writer, and poet who cared deeply about her family and community.
A Family Left Behind
Renee was a mother of three and had previously lost her former husband in 2023. Her youngest child is now without either parent, prompting relatives to step forward to care for him.
As investigations continue, the case has intensified scrutiny of federal immigration enforcement and fueled ongoing demonstrations across Minneapolis.
